Clean Up Green Up 2012

Join the Cañon City Recreation and Parks District, Friends of the Arkansas River, and tons of other local businesses and organizations in cleaning up the Arkansas RiverWalk through town and along the river.

Breakfast will be served hot at 8:00am, don’t miss it. Then head out on the trails and river and search for good ‘ol trash.

We provide trash bags, please bring your own gloves and dress appropriately.

Friends of the Arkansas River – Autumn River CleanUp 2011

Welcome and thank you for participating in Friends of the Arkansas River’s first annual Autumn CleanUp! Your participation means a lot, and will go a long way towards keeping our river clean and safe. Below we’ve answered some common questions, and provided a map. Enjoy the beautiful day and have fun.

- Where is the best place to pick up trash?
Anywhere along the RiverWalk trails or right along the river bank is good. See the map below for areas we have identified as heavy concentration areas or places the river is most likely to have deposited trash. Anytime you are along the river bank use extreme caution. The river is cold, deep, and swift even at these lower flows typical in the fall.

- What should I do if I encounter trash too big for me to handle?
If you find something in the river or along the banks that is too large or awkward for you to safely remove by yourself just leave it. Make a note of its location on the map below, or make a mental note of it to tell someone later.

- What do I do with my full trash bags?
Please leave them either at the pavilion at Centennial where you got the trash bags, or leave them at the trailhead near the parking lot at either Sells Ave. or Raynolds Ave. See the map below. We will be by to pick them up at the end of the day.

FREE t-shirts

Come join us tomorrow (Oct. 22) for our first annual Autumn CleanUp! We have some FREE t-shirts to give away. American Rivers donated some shirts, as well as local artisan Bizzy Betty. So head out to Centennial Park in Cañon City, grab a trash bag and a t-shirt, and head out on the RiverWalk to help beautify the river.
